Valocarb© technology  Air protection by industrial fume treatment

VALOCARB© technology, far from working with CO2 alone, can also treat other pollutants such as SO2, NO2 and many other harmful molecules, thus constituting a molecular filter to combat industrial pollution in its entirety.

Gaseous releases from industry, SO2, NO2, H2S, COS, NOx, COV, POP, NH3, HF, etc. have an impact on air quality, even at low concentrations.

As for CO2, it has no impact on air quality, but it has a very significant negative impact on climate change.

Air pollution constitute a major health risk, with high morbidity due to stroke, huart disease, lung cancer and respiratory, chronic or acute conditions, including asthma.

The World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on air quality provide thresholds above which air pollution is harmful to health.

This market for improving air quality, strongly linked to the regulation that is hardening in Europe and the world, is growing steadily, with a diversification of the gases to be treated and a lowering of the thresholds set by the WHO.

This market will be worth around €20 billion worldwide, in 2020.

SO2 and Nox capture:

Solutions currently on the market, often based on water washing technologies or in basic medium by passing on a filter or a basic dry bed (lime, limestone or sodium bicarbonate), are efficient but polluting for groundwater and their cost is significant, as the recovery of these discharges is low or non-existent.

Valocarb’s microalgal culture technology allows them to combine their capture with that of CO2. In fact, CO2, SO2 and Nox are dissolved, thus immediately bio-assimilable, and directly recycled by microalgae in culture in photo-bio-reactors, with a great valorization.

This option may also allow simultaneous treatment of wastewater.

Capture of other compounds: H2S, COS, COV, POP, NH3, HF, etc.

Their complexity means that some are very difficult to capture by the usual technologies, despite the combination, sometimes, of several techniques.

Conversely, the properties of the VALOCARB© technology mean that the most complex gases are the best captured, which makes it possible to envisage the treatment of a wide range of these gases today problematic, VOC, POP, but also H2S and mercaptans, which pose neighbourhood problems to certain industrial activities (paper mills, chemicals, water treatment, rendering…).

These smelly molecules, pointed in particular at tourist regions, are leading to increasingly structured eco-citizen mobilizations.

They will become problematic for these industries.

H2S capture tests were successfully carried out by VALOCARB© in a large paper mill in the New Aquitaine Region.

Although Valocarb© technology is primarily concerned with industrial discharges, it can also be applied to air treatment in urban areas.

In fact, this technology constitutes a molecular filter to combat air pollution as a whole, and could be implemented, for example, at underground car parks where urban pollution is greatest, the details of such implementation should be examined with the competent authorities.
